The Isle d'Abeau approach :
development in harmony with the landscape
 Environment

Respect for the landscape means including the environment in the New Town's development strategy. And respect for the environment means taking a whole set of decisions.

First and foremost come anti-pollution regulations, especially in terms of air and soil.
Measures such as a carefully planned sewer network and protection of drinking water catchment zones reduce the likelihood of accidental pollution of the water table. Natural hazards are countered by using the ponds as rainfall buffers and by channelling rainwater prior to run-off.

The Isle d'Abeau Landscape Plan
The Landscape Plan is a comprehensive territorial development project combining economic, social and environmental goals. It is based on the following eight recommendations:
- Designing every project in terms of at least three scales of landscape perception: the "hands-on" scale of the immediate landscape, an intermediate scale and a distant scale.
- Taking account of, and as far as possible maintaining the existing surface structuring of the landscape: hedgerows, strips of woodland, copses, plot orientation, walls and so on.
- Devoting particular attention to public spaces and the road system
- Devoting maximum attention to built areas and non-built areas.
- Drawing up and implementing a comprehensive landscape strategy for the town's through routes and access points to the valley.
- Improving project preparation and assessment methods.
- Increase all-round stakeholder awareness, educate, communicate and generate a sense of responsibility.
