By 2006 nearly one and a half million square metres of warehouse space will be operational in Isle d'Abeau.
Isle d'Abeau's specific approach to logistics is leading
to a new phase of development based on "logistical intelligence"
and a determination to attract private and public sector services
in this field, notably in respect of:
· Professional training and higher education,
in conjunction with Isle d'Abeau's university facilities.
The aim is to facilitate access to jobs in the New Town and
to key training programmes into local business activity.
· Logistical engineering : increasing recourse
by business to logistical outsourcing, and the need to adapt
today's exigencies, means boosting the logistical engineering
skills required by shippers, logisticians and transporters.
· Financial and administrative services : the
platform's international character is already generating considerable
international activity at company and customs level. This
means the related skills have to be enhanced and made available
to shippers and logisticians.
· Development of information-related professions
: logistical flows go hand in hand with information flows.
Expertise in and development of these procedures is playing
an increasingly important part in this field.
· "New business practices" : there
is a real place for such developments as e-commerce, distance
selling and call centres in the Isle d'Abeau skills hub.
· Logistics equipment : already represented
in Isle d'Abeau, this sector covers computers, handling equipment
and packaging. The present local market structure leaves ample
room for new developments.
