 The background 

February 1968 :
The Joint Ministerial Territorial Planning Committee (CIAT) takes a provisional decision on creation of Isle d'Abeau New Town and Satolas airport.

May 1970 : Sitting on May 26 the Joint Ministerial Committee
- approves the development scheme for the "Lyon-St Etienne-Grenoble Metropolis"
- decides to create the most direct possible motorway link between Lyon and Grenoble
- decides that Satolas airport should go into service
- decides to get the Isle d'Abeau New Town project under way.

January 1972 : Official establishment of the Isle d'Abeau New Town Planning Authority (EPIDA).

August 1972 : Official establishment of Isle d'Abeau New Town, to ultimately comprise 21 municipalities.

September 1984 : Founding of the New Urban Area Association (SAN). 5 municipalities (Four, Isle d'Abeau, St-Quentin Fallavier, Vaulx Milieu, Villefontaine) currently make up Isle d'Abeau New Town.

October 99 : Founding of the Territorial Planning Studies Group for North Isère (SATIN).

2000 : The Rhône-Alpes Region begins updating its territorial planning and development plan.
The State, the Isère département and SAN sign a new development agreement for 2000-2003.
The Isère Departmental Council, SATIN and EPIDA sign a new aims and objectives contract: the Département commits 0.46m euros (3m francs) to a research institute and analytical studies for the North Isère urban area.

Since 2001: EPIDA's aims have been to:
- become the 3rd largest development hub in the Lyons metropolitan area,
- draw up the " regional development plan " for Nord-Isère,
- Develop true urban projects
- Create a broader range of housing
- Boost business development and balance its geographical spread
- Provide and enhance urban and metropolitan services and functions with a view to sustainable development for the North Isère urban area.

EPIDA in 2005: Focused on 11 broad scale urban projects which led to the installation of an urban planning project for the Nord-Isère agglomeration.
Achieved decisive progress in the area of sustainable development which translated into ISO 14001 certification for all of our activities as well as setting up new consultation practices with local authorities and user associations for project development.
