EPIDA's role is that of a property developer providing services
to the State and local government. The land reserve policy introduced
by the State in 1968 and adopted by EPIDA is a significant factor
in Isle d'Abeau's dynamism.
In the course of various development projects, close on 4000
hectares have been acquired and consolidated. A substantial
proportion of these holdings has since been sold to the private
or public bodies involved in creating the new town.
Rapid sales over the last few years have meant working with
the State on deals involving some 50 hectares and 30 clients
annually. In parallel with this, EPIDA's property division has
been making further acquisitions with a view to fostering housing
diversity. These acquisitions focus on additions close to existing
urban areas in North Isère.
Land reserve management measures are based on a close relationship
with the farming world and its representatives. The aim is to
enable farmers to restructure their working context via the
rental or provisional use of land reserves that are not immediately
operational. In the same way, in conjunction with SAFER - an
agency entitled to buy land and earmark it for agricultural
use - some twenty hectares of farmland are put back on the market
each year.
