Le Domaine de la Terre, in Villefontaine's Fougères
neighbourhood
The 65 housing units making up this experimental project were
built in 1982-86, using pisé, mudbrick and the earth-straw
technique in a modernised application of traditional Bas-Dauphiné
building methods.
The Chapel of St Germain in Isle d'Abeau
Overlooking the valley of the river Bourbre, the Chapel of St
Germain was built to commemorate the passing of the caravan
bringing the body of the saint back from Italy, after his death
in 487. Standing alone in a field west of the town, it is a
fine example of the pure Romanesque style.
Fallavier Castle
Mentioned in historical records as early as 877, the castle
was fortified in 1280, during hostilities between Dauphiné
and Savoy. It now belongs to the municipality and is open to
visitors; guided tours are also available. The fortified Allinges
Farm is a castle outbuilding dating from the 14th century.
Vaulx Temple
Built in the 11th century, this former commandery of the Knights
Templars provided protection for pilgrims bound for Turin.
